Geotechnical Engineering & Subsurface Drilling

SUMMIT offers a wide range of Geotechnical Engineering Services to assist owners, developers and contractors in evaluating the subsurface conditions at a subject property. Our services are designed to provide our clients with the information needed to successfully design and complete the proposed project. Our Geotechnical Department routinely provides design and analysis for bearing capacity, shallow and deep foundation systems, roadways and pavements, site development considerations and other project specific engineering items as needed.

Materials Testing

The SUMMIT Construction Materials Testing department consists of a diverse and highly trained group of Professional Engineers, Project Managers and Field Technicians performing material testing services for numerous construction projects. Our Construction Materials Testing staff are certified by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technicians (NICET) and International Code Council (ICC) among others. Our Construction Materials Testing services are designed to document the properties, proper use and installation of a wide-range of construction materials including soil, stone, asphalt, concrete and construction coatings.

Materials Laboratory

SUMMIT Laboratories is capable of performing the full range of Laboratory testing services required to meet the needs of our Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspections and Geotechnical Departments. Our laboratory is inspected by NCDOT, AMRL, CCRL and is accredited by AASHTO. Testing of soils and concrete for the determination of engineering properties are performed in accordance with the appropriate ASTM or AASHTO procedures as dictated by the project requirements.

Environmental Engineering

SUMMIT provides our clients with reliable and cost effective solutions to their environmental assessment and remediation needs. Our Environmental Staff develops practical and proven solutions to recognized environmental concerns and other potential environmental issues. Our full-service Environmental Department can provide turn-key solutions to asbestos, lead based paint, hazardous material and tank removal among others.

Chapter 17 Special Inspections

SUMMIT's Special Inspections department provides inspectors to perform Chapter 17 Special Inspections for construction projects as part of the International Code Council requirements. SUMMIT provides in-house inspections for all typical Chapter 17 Special Inspection types with multiple experienced and certified inspectors and engineers. Our Chapter 17 Special Inspectors undergo formal training and certification procedures for their inspections on Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Spray-Applied Fire Resistant Materials and Structural Steel among others.

Land Surveying

SUMMIT's Land Surveying group provides the ability to perform detailed land surveying services during project due diligence, planning and construction activities. Partnering with our other departments, Land Surveying allows The SUMMIT Companies to provide to provide turn-key construction and planning related services to our clients across many fields. Our Land Surveying team consists of Registered Land Surveyors, Party Chiefs and Survey crews operating one-man robotic and two to three man survey crews.
