The SUMMIT Team has been involved in many of the areas largest industrial expansions and construction projects and is qualified to provide our laboratory and field services for even the most complex of projects. Our experience includes power generation / distribution, landfill, warehouse, distribution and facility upgrades amongst others. Our certified laboratory often provides the advanced material testing services on dam, landfill and nuclear / conventional power facilities.

Our work consisted of Cost Estimating Services for the Closure of the Barnwell Radioactive Hazardous Waste Landfill for the South Carolina Energy Office. SUMMIT was awarded the on-call contract to provide Cost Estimating Services for the closure of the Barnwell site. As the only state-owned facility currently available to most of the nation for disposal of commercially generated low-level radioactive waste the review of closure cost estimates from qualified contractors required detailed and precise evaluation from the SUMMIT team.

The FedEx Freight Facility serves as a warehouse and distribution facility for FedEx in Charlotte, North Carolina. This project consisted of the construction of multiple loading docks and approximately 40,000 square feet of additional warehouse storage for the existing FedEx Freight Facility. SUMMIT performed Construction Materials Testing and Chapter 17 Special Inspections during site development and building construction.

Allen Steam Station

Scope: Geotechnical Engineering and Deep Foundation Design
Client: Penta Engineering and Duke Energy

Our work consisted of performing a geotechnical evaluation for two proposed 300,000 gallon above ground demineralization storage tanks at the Duke Energy Allen Steam Station in Belmont, North Carolina. Our geotechnical evaluation included borings to depths of over 90 feet with rock coring for evaluation of foundation support. At the conclusion of our geotechnical evaluation, SUMMIT utilized the collected data to supply Penta Engineering with the required design and parameters for a drive steel pile foundation system to support the proposed tanks.

The US Foodservice expansion involved of an 80,000 square-feet expansion to the existing distribution center in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Challenging site conditions required the use of 100 Geo-Pier installation points to support the proposed structure. Our work consisted of Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing, Chapter 17 Special Inspections for the Geo-Pier foundations, concrete and steel construction.
